Amber & Zebulun
As co-founders of Coincident Time Arts, music teachers, and talented multi-instrumentalists, Amber & Zebulun have been creating music together for more than a decade. Now, they are releasing their first, self-produced album, South of North, East of West - a celebration of relationships, creativity, and the paradox of “here and now”.
South of North, East of West
This album is about relationships.
South of North, East of West is about who you are, as defined by where you are. Where you’re from (an Ontarian, Michigander, Chicagoan, Torontonian) or your National or religious origin is an identity that is usually assigned, rarely earned or chosen. To be from “The North” means different things to different people. Unless we mean the absolute point of the North Pole on the planet, there is wiggle room for “The North”. We need a point that is “south” to make sense of it. We know if we go “south” from “north”, eventually we return to the point where our trip began. This is, of course, the same with our other two established directions, “east” and “west”.
The meaning of each of these four directions is defined by its opposite, its relationship to the others. If we remove the meaning of our origin, of our destination, we are either lost or exactly where we should be.

About Amber & Zebulun
Both Amber and Zebulun were born in places where they lived for only a short time; Zebulun in Marquette, Michigan and Amber in Yellowknife, NT. Soon after, Zebulun's family moved to the suburbs of Chicago. Amber's family was living in Pelly Bay, NT (now Kugaaruk, NU) before they moved to Marysville, ON. Unlike many people who “grow up” in or near the town where they were born, Amber and Zebulun were moved to a new place and challenged to redefine their individual identities. Ironically, this would happen to them both many times during their childhoods.
Fast forward to 2009, when for a myriad of reasons both Amber and Zebulun happened to be in Chicago. For an even more complicated series of reasons they happened to meet. As they were (and are) Musicians, they began to play concerts together (with Zebulun as leader of a Tom Waits cover band and Amber on cello!). As destiny would have it, soon they were in love and happily married. Now, they are creating together.
